Michael Jackson Manslaughter Case, Legal Costs & Professional Liability Insurance

With the conviction of Dr Conrad Murray of the involuntary manslaughter of Michael Jackson the legendary pop star, the legal costs on both sides will probably be a record.

With Dr Conrad Murray awaiting sentencing which could see him serve up to four years has the chapter closed or will there be an appeal by the lawyers representing Dr Murray which of course could lead to more legal costs.

So with any Insurance companies holding insurance in a similar situation with a mega star involved could cost the providers of such insurance policies clearly particularly if they were found to be neglectful in their duties. In Dr Conrad Murrays case he has to be found criminally neglectful and should he have a Professional Liability Insurance or Medical Indemnity Insurance in place the damage and legal cost of his case would be substantial.

Medical Mal-Practice Insurance

Medical MalPractice insurance has become an area where protection has become very important to the various growing professions.

Apart from the obvious areas such as doctors, nurses, dentists etc, there are many classes that are less well known, for example - nutritionists, complementary therapists, paramedics, first aiders, acupuncturists, masseurs and reflexologists and who all will need Professional Indemnity insurance / Medical Indemnity type insurance policies to protect them against possible legal claims, law suits and damages awarded to them in the event of their neglect when treating a client, which most Professional Indemnity or Medical Indemnity would respond to. The demand because of the new professions has never been higher.

Medical Malpractice Insurance

There is a growing demand for Professional Indemnity with well over 180 different professions now using and applying for this type of insurance policy.
There is also a demand for Medical Malpractice Insurance and very often the two policies can crossover a professionals requirements. This is particularly relevant when a profession drops in between the requirement for Professional Indemnity Insurance and a medical malpractice occupation. For example a 'life coach' may well consider just Professional Indemnity Insurance as the correct policy to obtain, however, if part of the life coaching involves therapy or say yoga training, you may well then be into needing a Medical Malpractice type wording. A standard Profesional Indemnity Insurance policy may well exclude bodily injury, property damage claims.
